At the same time, fungi have long sparked human curiosity: they are neither plants nor animals, yet they play a fundamental role in natural systems. Understanding which species are edible, which are dangerous, and why they matter ecologically is the central aim of this guided mushroom course in English.Our mushroom tours in Berlin are led by an experienced guide and focus on developing a solid foundation in fungal identification. Participants are introduced to common species found in Berlin’s forests and green spaces and learn how to recognize key features that allow for reliable differentiation in the field. Particular attention is paid to avoiding hazardous mix-ups with poisonous species, supported by clear and practical safety principles.Beyond identification, the course places fungi within a broader ecological framework. Participants learn how mushrooms interact with trees and soils, their role in nutrient cycles, and why fungal networks are essential for healthy ecosystems. This perspective highlights the importance of fungi well beyond their culinary use.Mushrooms can be found throughout the year, even though autumn offers the highest visible diversity. Each tour adapts to seasonal conditions and current fungal growth, ensuring that the content reflects what is actually present in the landscape.The guided walk lasts approximately three hours and takes place at various locations across Berlin. The course is designed primarily for beginners or participants with limited prior experience. After the tour, attendees receive digital materials with concise species profiles and recommendations for further reading. No mushrooms are collected during the walk in order to protect local populations. Tours may be cancelled at short notice due to unsuitable weather conditions, with vouchers or refunds provided accordingly.
