The Global bean project
Beans (phaseolus) are the most important legumes of the world - and probably the most diverse and beautiful, within the family of pulses. They crawl and climb, some stand alone. Their butterfly shaped flowers come in all colors. Their seeds are shining when dried and are a major source of protein. Beans originate from the Americas and are grown around the world, feeding not only humans and animals but also nurturing the soil with nitrogen. At the occasion of World Pulses Day 2022, the global bean project will be exploring bean diversity. Patrick Kaiser from the swabian Genbänkle, Germany, will lead us through history, diversity, numbers and the beauty of beans.
