Ladies and gentlemen, we're happy to invite you to another edition of the Berlin Sustainability Talk. Martin Hirschnitz-Garbers will give a presentation on Decoupling economic growth from resource use and environmental impacts – what do we need to achieve? And how? The event will be held at the Conference room of the Academic Senate.
In his presentation, Martin Hirschnitz-Garbers (Coordinator Resource Efficiency at Ecologic Institute), will address the concept of absolute decoupling as one promising approach to help the EU and its citizens live more sustainably and within planetary boundaries. In this context, he will present different decoupling concepts and existing examples and outline the need for resource use reduction and minimization of environmental impacts. Furthermore, discussions will be invited as to whether absolute decoupling could be the one-size fits all solution or whether the underlying paradigm of perpetual economic growth should also be questioned.
The Berlin Sustainability Talk is a monthly brown bag seminar at the Environmental Policy Research Centre (ffu). It provides a forum for discussion and exchange about ongoing research projects and recent trends in environmental policy research with scholars of other institutes, business representatives, politics, and public administrations as well as the interested public. A registration for the event is not required.
